Growing up with a mom who did decoupage, painting and baking, art has always been an important part of my life. From early on in life, I knew I wanted to be involved in something creative. Firstly, my dream was to become a chef, but this later changed to be more focused on an art-styled career.
My name is Brad Stricker, a 31-year-old Product Designer from Durban, South Africa. After 5 years of living and working in Munich, Germany I am now residing back in Africa, in sunny, hot Gaborone, Botswana.
Since finishing my studies in 2013, I have spent my time figuring out my path in the web industry. With a few years of account management and also front-end web development experience, I have truly experienced it all.
I have experience in a varied range of industries, with everything from FMCG (Fast moving consumer goods), to Telecommunications as well as Hotel tech and more recently Health tech.
In the projects that I am part of, I like to value accessible design, the type of design that can improve the experience for all users of a product.
I am working full-time for SmartPatient. We are working on a medication reminder and tracking application. MyTherapy is available on both the Android Play store and Apple App Store.
Apart from design, I have a few hobbies. These include travelling, reading (both fiction and non-fiction, send me your favourites), golf, cycling, running, hiking and camping.
With moving back to Botswana, my wife and I are getting back into camping and hoping to do trips over the coming months.

My Past Experience
During the course of the last 10 years, I have been fortunate enough to experience a wide range of interesting and varying roles within the tech industry.
In my time at Smartpatient, I have worked closely with the other designers to help build the design system, as well as the many features over the years. I have been instrumental in the hiring process for the design team, and have helped to shape and grow the team over the last 3 years.
Senior UX/UI Designer
During my time at Workpath, I was working as the main designer on the product team. I helped to create a new design system for the team as well as pushed out new product features for the Workpath product.
While at Hyve, I worked as an expert in the UX and UI field. We worked as consultants on various clients' projects. The clients included Audi, Tüv Süd, Continental, Hatz Diesel Engines, and others. My primary focus during my tenure was the Tüv Süd MVP projects, which you can view in my case studies.
At Shiji Deutschland (formerly Hetras), I was the lead UX/UI Designer. Working together with the product managers and developers. I was instrumental in implementing the new design system, and the full redesign of the Hetras system.
During my time at Ignition group, I was instrumental in helping to bring all web design and front-end development work in-house. My focus was initially on email newsletters and static landing pages. By the time I left, I built the user flows and wireframes for the brand’s apps that were being developed at the time.
Whilst working at Thumbtribe I had a mixed role, that of Account Manager as well as Graphic Designer. Along with helping to manage several Unilever accounts, I also created content for the blogs, updated several websites monthly, and did the design the monthly advertising content for the brands.
Freelance Web and Graphic Designer
During my first year after university, I did freelance work while building my portfolio, and getting experience in the design industry. Clients included were brands such as the Golden Arrows and Natal Dolphins (for both I was in charge of their Social Media as well as the websites on game days); Mattress Clean (Packaging and branding).
I have experience designing logos, print and web advertising pieces. I also have experienced design for most social media platforms.
I have been fortunate enough to experience the full product design flow. With the knowledge, experience and know how, to create full working products.
Research is such an important part of the process, from just the basic SWOT analysis' to also moderated and unmoderated tests.
In order to build great products, flows and architectures, a good understanding of HTML, CSS and JS is great to have.
